President Biden’s Day One climate actions followed through on campaign promises to steer the United States away from its reliance on traditional energy and move toward a clean energy future with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to rejoining the Paris Agreement, issuance of oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge were paused, certain areas in Arctic waters and the Bering Sea were withdrawn from leasing, and the authority of most Department of the Interior officials from issuing any new onshore or offshore fossil fuel authorizations was suspended.
